The Regency

This Grade II listed building had a varied history before being purchased by our client in 2018. Originally built as a large detached private residence, it then became a convent before being converted into a nursing home. Arranged over 5 storeys, with a plan form wrapped around a stair core, the building lent itself to conversion to 5 spacious apartments, one on each floor.

That required little change to the historic fabric and external appearance but extensive repairs and restoration. Thankfully our client was used to working with older buildings and really embraced the building’s foibles and features, taking a conservation minded approach. So decorative features like cornices, ceilings, joinery have all been carefully restored and at the same time, the building has been brought up to modern standards of thermal efficiency and fire performance. The result is a stunning collection of apartments, each with its own character and a new lease of life for a grand Victorian building.
