Moe’s House

Moe’s House is a new-build rural dwelling for a private client, delivered as a full self-build project under North Devon Council’s DM27 policy.

The design responds directly to its countryside setting, drawing inspiration from the simple, functional character of the steel-framed agricultural barn that previously occupied the site. The form, scale and material palette reflect traditional rural architecture, allowing the new dwelling to sit comfortably within the landscape while clearly expressing its contemporary residential use.

Constructed using a highly insulated SIPs system, the house was designed with energy performance at its core. This approach supported the client’s ambition for a sustainable self-build home, resulting in an EPC rating of A. By reinterpreting the proportions and understated detailing of the former barn, the project achieves a sensitive balance between replacement and renewal.
