East Marsh Farm

This project transforms a large steel-framed barn with a simple rectangular plan into two contemporary dwellings designed for multi-generational living. Careful insertion and removal of sections of the original structure allowed the creation of integral garages, covered terraces, and flexible internal layouts, while maintaining the openness and character of the barn.

The larger dwelling features a double-height entrance hall, creating a dramatic arrival space and flooding the interior with natural light. Both dwellings include open-plan kitchen, dining, and living areas that flow seamlessly onto gardens or terraces, reinforcing the connection between indoor and outdoor living.

The layout of the plan slides the two dwellings relative to each other, ensuring that each household enjoys private outdoor spaces while making the most of light, views, and functionality. This considered arrangement balances shared and private living, resulting in a modern, adaptable home that celebrates the barn’s industrial heritage while providing comfortable, contemporary accommodation for multiple generations.
