Braddicks

A self-build with sustainability in mind. Braddicks is a contemporary new-build dwelling for a private client, delivered as a self-build project with strong Passivhaus ambitions.

The design is formed around two corresponding pitched volumes, connected by a central glazed linking element that brings daylight deep into the plan and establishes clear visual connections between internal spaces and the surrounding landscape. A careful composition of single- and two-storey elements allows the house to respond sensitively to its setting while creating a varied and legible architectural form.

Ecological constraints played a significant role in shaping the project, with protected wildlife, including bats, present on and around the site. The design and construction process were informed by detailed ecological assessment, ensuring compliance while enhancing biodiversity and minimising impact on existing habitats.

Through a combination of high-performance building fabric and thoughtful spatial planning, the project balances contemporary architectural expression with environmental responsibility.
