Turnstyle Deisgns, Roundswell

A new manufacturing campus in Barnstaple. Turnstyle Designs, a luxury door hardware manufacturer operating for over 25 years and shipping to more than 30 countries, is a truly global North Devon brand. Our brief was to help Turnstyle plan for the growth of their business over the next 20 years, which involved relocating their operations from their existing premises to a new site in Roundswell.

The project comprises alterations and fit-out of the existing 5,500 sq.ft building, alongside a new 10,000 sq.ft extension. Future-proofing for a growing business was central to the design, resulting in flexible, openplan spaces and low-maintenance, modern finishes that meet the company’s operational needs.

Sustainability is embedded in the design in line with Turnstyle’s B Corp designation. Polycarbonate glazing and thoughtful use of natural materials bring abundant natural light into the workspace, creating a pleasant, contemporary working environment that reflects the company’s ethos. Careful adaptation of the existing building minimised the project’s net carbon contribution, while the site layout enhances ecological outcomes, including positive integration with the surrounding landscape and contributions to local wildlife reserves.

By combining practical operational requirements with environmentally responsible design, Turnstyle Campus provides a modern, adaptable facility that supports both the company’s growth and its commitment to ecological stewardship.
