PMA were invited to develop a scheme to convert a Boathouse into a residential dwelling for a private client.
As architects we love having sites with views over the water, however this scheme did require us to overcome a number of flood plane issues though close discussions with the environment agency.
Fortunately PMA and the EA were able to develop a good discourse and develop a scheme that ensured the ongoing retention of a historic building, whilst ensuring a safe & responsible design solution to respond to the EA’s concerns.
The scheme looks to retain the existing fabric of the building, but introduce a mezzanine deck to create living and sleeping accommodation at high level. This new floor enabled the scheme to overcome the concerns over water levels, and provided the additional space the tight site needed to make the most of the water side views.
