Private House, Ilfracombe

Seagull Villa is a new house created in the garden of a clients’ existing property.  Due to the location of the dwelling being within close proximity to the neighbouring properties, no windows were allowed to be used on the side boundaries.

The massing for this property was split into two smaller volumes which have been pulled apart so that the elevations face into the site rather than out. The gently curving roofs are inspired by natural forms observed near the site and external amenity space provided on both floors links the two separate volumes together. The dwelling boasts reverse level accommodation to allow open plan living spaces with vaulted ceilings upstairs. As well as this, all habitable rooms have a seaward view, making  the most of the coastal setting.
