Conversion of hall to residential

Conversion of Victorian Hall to residential

PMA were appointed to maximise the commercial viability of a brown field site in the heart of Barnstaple. The existing building is a Victorian Hall, which was most recently used as the meeting place for the Royal Order of the Buffalo.

Sadly the building was no longer needed as a community facility, and whilst our clients had originally hoped that it could be used as part of a care facility, this was also found to not be practicable.

After the care use was discounted, it was felt that a change of use to residential would be the most viable option for the site.

Our design solution looks to introduce four duplex apartments within the existing envelop, each including a double height space to ensure that the original space can be read. The design looks to retain all the original features, and in particular the large stained glass window to the street facade.
