Grand Design home for Kings Nympton
PMA were approached by Mr & Mrs Priscott to design them them a ‘Grand Designs’ house for a plot they purchased near Kings Nympton.
As architects we love this type of brief, and enjoyed the freedom that the clients afforded us in the original brief.
PMA have developed an upside down house, to enable the views to be maximised from the living areas and master bedroom. The form of the building has been developed by picking upon the local agricultural vernacular, and similarly the choice of materials looks to put a modern twist on the local palette.
The cantilevered form of the building has been developed to help us ‘touch the ground lightly’ as the clients were keen to retain the sites green feel, and in particular the tree lined boundary forming a wonderful backdrop to the house.
The form and window positions have been developed by framing keys views both into, and thought the tree line and have resulted in an abstract facade.
