Refurbishment of a 1930’s detached dwelling with impressive views over the River Torridge and beyond
We were approached in late 2014 by the new owners of a property in the historic fishing village of Appledore, who wished to extend their new home to accommodate visiting family and friends. The 1930’s detached property offered living accommodation that was not fit for modern styles of living and made little connection to the panoramic views of the Torridge estuary and Devon countryside beyond.
We developed a brief and concept design with our clients seeking to open up the downstairs to a modern open-plan arrangement bringing the family rooms together into one connected space, maximising the connection with the garden and views over the estuary. The proposed design involved the refurbishment of the existing dwelling, breathing new life into a tired exterior and interior. A side extension was added comprising an open plan kitchen/dining/living space to ground floor and master suite with vaulted ceiling to first floor.
