Ag- Tie Farm House

Bespoke Farm house on Dairy Farm in Shirwell

PMA were commissioned to design an agricultural dwelling on the site of a busy diary farm near Shirwell, North Devon.

The farm has been in the family for over three generations, and our clients recognised that to ensure the farm remains viable over the coming years that they need to continue to expand. As a result of the growing business, and the growing family the need for additional on site accommodation was realised.

The concept for the scheme, was based around an interpretation of a traditional farm house, wrapped around a courtyard space. This angular form enabled a modest sized family dwelling to be formed that related to the wonderful rural views, whilst ensuring a ‘mud free’ courtyard could be created for the children to play in.

The stepped building form ensures that the building has a minimal footprint so not eating into the precious grazing land, and provides shelter from the elements to the courtyard space.
