The Hoops Inn

Extensions & alterations to Grade II listed hotel

The Hoops Inn is an historic country house hotel and former coaching inn on the A39 near Clovelly.  We were commissioned in 2008 to design a range of extension and alteration works as part of a refurbishment programme.  As the building is grade II listed, this meant that a careful design approach was needed to respect the character and setting whilst at the same time achieving high levels of guest comfort.

The project comprised 4 elements;
1) Converting the former ground floor stables to bedrooms suitable for disabled guests;
2) Extending the annex building at first floor level to create an extra guest bedroom
3) Redesigning the courtyard to improve the approach and external space
4) Turning an old unused office into a new reception lounge

The refurbishment works were dealt a blow early in 2010 when a fire raged through the building.  However the Hoops has now risen again complete with a smart new thatched roof.
