Holman Park Community Clubhouse

New build to replace existing community building

The idea of local communities coming together to shape their own environments was alive and well in Lynton for many years before the Localism Bill 2011 came about.  This project set up by the Holman Park Regeneration Group, under the umbrella of the Lyn Community Association, will provide a clubhouse and sporting facility for the benefit of a diverse range of local community groups.

The new facility will replace an existing building which is long past its’ sell by date.  The new building has been designed as a simple single storey structure, (in accordance with a restrictive covenant limiting the height) and will comprise a multi-purpose space on the west side and a gym on the east side.  Between these areas will be changing rooms, toilets, plant room and stores.  In total a little over 3400 square feet of floor space will be created.

We have developed the design proposals up to and including the technical design work necessary to obtain consent under the building regulations. Sustainability has been at the heart of the project from the start, both in a social / community sense and in terms of the operation of the building.  A ground source heat pump will provide heating and hot water and solar photovoltaic panels will generate the building’s electricity. High levels of thermal insulation and a predominantly southerly aspect will help reduce the demand for space heating.

The organising committee has raised substantial funds to date, which are understood to be supplemented by a range of grants and donations. It is hoped that building work will commence in 2014 whereupon the people of Lynton and surrounding districts will have a superb new facility to enjoy.
