Silver Gables

Former Care home converted to luxury apartments

Silver Gables is a 5 storey Grade II listed building in Illfracombe. The building is set back from the road and accessed via a stone bridge and grand brick archway forming a prominent entrance portico from the main road. Due to the steep topography of the area, the building benefits from having two storeys ‘hidden’ from the road side the lower of which has an expansive sun deck spreading into the garden.

The building had recently been run as a care home but due to the layout of the building and listed nature of the structure, the care home was found to be uneconomical and a new use was needed.

PMA, working with a London based interior design firm have sensitively redesigned the building to create 5 luxury apartments blending  modern design, with the impressive original details.

In addition to this internal refurbishment, PMA have developed a contemporary 3 bedroom dwelling within the grounds of the listed building which juxtaposes the original building. This new building also makes use of the change in topography to create double height living areas, and includes parking on the roof.
